the important things in life
when people ask me what i want to be in the future, i always say i want to be a housewife.. i believe i'm one of the few people who really want this.. and i'm sick and tired of people thinking and even saying that it's so 'ambition-less' of me.. and that women should be 'stronger'.. and should work to be as good as, or even better than men.. it's annoying..
firstly, just because the society has evolved to a state whereby women have the opportunity to succeed and it is possible for women to do better than men doesn't mean that every lady has to want to do it.. in the first place, to be 'better' than men, shouldn't women have a mind of their own?! each and every woman should have a right to decide for themselves what they deem most important to them, and they should not be looked down upon should they choose family over career..
secondly, i don't think this is an issue of whether a woman has or doesn't have ambition.. i think it's about how one wants to make her life meaningful.. what good is having a successful career when all she wants is to work to make her family (her loved ones) happy..? it's about what's most important to her.. some may want children, some may not.. you cannot deny that people are bound to like different things and would want different things in life.. these, i feel, should be respected, not despised..
thirdly, when people say that women should aim to do more than being a mother, there is an implication that a mother's job is easy.. go tell your mum that and she'll kill you.. being a mother is a 24/7 job! and least you get the nights and weekends off on a real job.. so by saying i want to be mother, i actually aiming higher than aiming for whatever else.. and besides, you're actually making a difference to someone's life directly.. i just think it's more meaningful than say, advertising when you create a societal image of beauty and all the morale of girls are torn down..
that's why it's so annoying.. cuz people who say these things don't ever think beyond what the society tells them before saying it.. if i like kids, i want to have kids.. if i like chocolates, i eat chocolate.. nobody looks down on people who eat chocolate right.. so what's wrong with wanting kids and wanting to be a housewife so i can take care of my kids well..?
so then people will say that you can have kids and work at the same time.. but then your time is limited isn't it..? time for work would mean less time for kids.. young kids especially need alot of time and attention.. if i could choose, i'd rather give all my time to my kids (and husband) to take care them to the best of my ability.. once again, boils down to what's most important to you..
i think my family is the most important, and no career will replace that.. how about you..?
